Lead casting has been announced for new musical The Ballad of Johnny & June, centred on singing legends Johnny Cash and his wife June Carter Cash.
The Ballad of Johnny & June is touring UK theatres in 2026, starting at the Churchill Theatre Bromley on 2 March 2026, and then visiting Cardiff, Dublin, Brighton, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Wycombe, Southend, Newcastle, Salford, Plymouth, Bradford, London Richmond, Hull, Blackpool, York, Belfast, Glasgow, Eastbourne, Canterbury, Southampton, and Leeds. The London Richmond Theatre dates are 6 to 11 July 2026.
The Ballad of Johnny & June is set to star Christina Bianco (The Wizard of Oz, Forbidden Broadway) as June Carter Cash, and Christopher Ryan Grant (Million Dollar Quartet) as Johnny Cash.
Christopher reprises the role of Johnny Cash following his performance in the premiere of the show at New York’s La Jolla Playhouse.
Further casting is to be announced.
The Ballad of Johnny & June is directed by two-time Tony Award winner Des McAnuff (Jersey Boys, The Who’s Tommy, Summer: The Donna Summer Musical), and packed with legendary hits including I Walk the Line, Ring of Fire, Hey Porter, Jackson, and I’ve Been Everywhere.
The musical is told through the eyes of their son, John Carter Cash, and takes audiences inside the soaring highs and shattering lows of a love story that defined an era, showcasing why Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash remain one of the most famous couples of the 20th Century.
