Film and TV producer Studiocanal is launching a new theatre production company called Studiocanal on Stage.
The studio is currently co-producing the major new West End show Paddington The Musical at the Savoy Theatre in London.
Paddington officially opens this Sunday 30 November 2025, and is now playing at the Savoy until 25 October 2026.
Studiocanal’s new stage production unit will be led by Ron Halpern, EVP Global Productions at Studiocanal.
Anna Marsh, CEO of Studiocanal and Chief Content Officer of Canal+, and who is co-producing Paddington in London with Sonia Friedman, said in a statement: “Studiocanal on Stage strengthens our strategy to develop and extend our IP across multiple formats. Alongside Studiocanal Stories and Sixth Dimension, this new label gives us a clear framework to grow our catalogue and bring our stories to new audiences. Paddington The Musical, premiering in London on November 30th, illustrates this ambition. We also look forward to developing projects at the Olympia in Paris, operated by CANAL+. Paddington is also produced by Eliza Lumley Productions, on behalf of Universal Music UK.
Studiocanal is Canal+’s in-house studio and a European leader in film and television development, production and distribution. Their catalogue includes more than 9,400 movie and TV titles from 60 countries, spanning 100 years of film history.
The Paddington musical is based on Michael Bond’s much-loved books, and also Studiocanal’s hugely successful Paddington film franchise.
Studiocanal’s other current stage shows include Mel Brooks’ The Producers at the Garrick Theatre, which has recently extended its run until September 2026. The Producers was adapted from the Studiocanal library film, and they have been involved with production since inception and are co-financiers.
Previous Studiocanal titles to be adapted for the stage include The Graduate, Evil Dead, The Ladykillers, Billy Elliot and The Third Man.
Other Studiocanal projects coming soon include a forthcoming UK tour of Restless Natives; the Sheffield Crucible production of Summer Holiday; and the world premiere of A Boy Called Christmas this December as part of the Chichester Festival Youth Theatre programme.
Studiocanal titles that are currently in development for the stage include Kind Hearts and Coronets with Sonia Friedman Productions; a new The Belles of St Trinian’s stage adaptation produced by Eliza Lumley and Chris Harper; and The Proud Valley, developed by Adam Wachter and Gareth Owen.
Studiocanal is also currently in production on a new screen adaptation of James Graham’s play Ink, directed by Danny Boyle; and are in post-production on the stage-to-screen adaptation of David Haig’s play Pressure, directed by Anthony Maras.
Paddington TV appearances
The cast of Paddington, including Paddington Bear, recently performed at this year’s Royal Variety Performance 2025 in London, in the presence of the Prince and Princess of Wales – who met Paddington Bear.
The Royal Variety Performance will air on ITV on 21 December 2025.
Paddington is also set to appear on Strictly Come Dancing’s Musicals Week on 6 December 2026. Tom Fletcher will serenade a couple with one of his new songs from Paddington The Musical, with Paddington Bear himself also taking to the dance floor.
The London cast recording of Paddington The Musical has also recently been announced, with the album to be released on streaming in March 2026.
