Casting has been announced for Greenwich Theatre’s forthcoming revival of Blue/Orange by Joe Penhall (The Road, Mindhunter).

Celebrating the 25th anniversary of the show, Blue/Orange is directed by Artistic Director James Haddrell, and is playing at Greenwich Theatre from 1 to 25 October 2025.

The cast features John Michie (Taggart, ITV; Holby City, BBC; Coronation Street, ITV), Rhianne Barreto (The Outlaws, BBC; Honour, ITV; No Escape, Paramount+), and Matthew Morrison (EastEnders, BBC; Boy Meets Boy, Cosmic Productions).

This provocative play tackles issues of race, mental health and institutional power, and follows a young, enigmatic Black patient named Christopher (Morrison) who claims to be the son of an African dictator and the two psychiatrists responsible for his treatment.

Penhall will also be revisiting his groundbreaking script for the production, repositioning the character of Bruce from a young White British man to a young South Asian woman.

Artistic Director James Haddrell said in a statement: “I am delighted to have such an exciting cast taking on this new production of Blue/Orange, and to be working with Joe Penhall to amend the script for this 25th anniversary revival. Changing the character of Bruce, written and traditionally presented as a young white man, to a young south Asian female gives new resonance to her interactions with the other characters, adds further layering to debates about race and cultural heritage, and presents a more contemporary picture of health care in Britain in the 2020s.”

The wider creative team includes Lighting Designer Henry Slater, with further creatives to be announced.

Blue/Orange is running at Greenwich Theatre from 1 to 25 October 2025.
