Producers of the major new stage adaptation of blockbuster movie franchise The Hunger Games have announced initial casting.
The Hunger Games On Stage will run at the brand new Troubadour Canary Wharf Theatre from 20 October 2025.
Mia Carragher (The Gathering) is set to play the iconic role of Katniss Everdeen in this first-ever live stage adaptation of Suzanne Collins’s internationally acclaimed book “The Hunger Games” and Lionsgate’s motion picture.

The Troubadour Canary Wharf Theatre, which was first proposed in September 2024, is a brand-new 1,200-seat venue, promising state-of-the-art facilities, and a dynamic theatre-in-the-round venue designed especially to host this production.
The Hunger Games On Stage is written by Olivier Award-winning playwright Conor McPherson (The Brightening Air, Girl from the North Country, The Weir), adapting the first book from Suzanne Collins, and directed by Matthew Dunster (Hedda, Shirley Valentine, 2:22 – A Ghost Story, The Pillowman).
Mia Carragher’s previous credits include the independent feature One Night in Istanbul, The Gathering for Channel 4, and she will soon be seen in the new Playground Entertainment series Maigret and the feature film Let’s Love. Carragher graduated from Tring Park School for the Performing Arts in 2022 and studied acting at The Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute.
The stage adaptation was originally set to have its world premiere in London in autumn 2024, but this was then delayed to January 2025. Further details of the creative team were announced in January.

The creative team for The Hunger Games on Stage also includes Set designer Miriam Buether, Costume designer Moi Tran, Choreographer Charlotte Broom, Lighting designer Lucy Carter, Sound designer Ian Dickinson for Autograph, Video designer Tal Rosner, Illusions by Chris Fisher, Fight director Kev McCurdy, Performer flying by John Maddox for Suspended Illusions, Arranger, musical director & additional compositions by James Maloney, Creative assistant director Robyn Grant, Associate set designer Luke Smith, and Casting by Amy Ball. Production management is led by Lloyd Thomas.
Matthew Dunster said in a statement: “We searched far and wide, and comprehensively, for our Katniss. It is not easy to step into Suzanne Collins’s amazing creation and only one actor combined Katniss’s charisma and combat skills – her quiet, tough determination and her brilliant creativity, athleticism, and humour. We’ve found our Katniss in Mia Carragher, and we can’t wait for audiences to see her.”
Mia Carragher said: “I am so excited and honoured to be playing Katniss. This is a dream come true role and I cannot wait to see the production come to life. From being a huge fan of the films, I feel so lucky to be a part of the Hunger Games world, especially working with Matthew Dunster and an incredible creative team”.
The Hunger Games On Stage will be the first-ever live stage adaptation of the acclaimed The Hunger Games books, which are set in a dystopian future where 24 young tributes are pitted against each other in a deadly arena.
The Hunger Games is a gripping tale of courage, defiance, and the unbreakable human spirit. Katniss Everdeen, a fearless and resourceful heroine, emerges as a symbol of rebellion as she fights not only for her life but for the hope of a nation oppressed by a ruthless Capitol.
The Hunger Games On Stage is produced by Tristan Baker and Charlie Parsons for Runaway Entertainment, Oliver Royds for BOS Productions and Isobel David, by arrangement with Lionsgate.
Lionsgate’s movie of The Hunger Games is one of the highest-grossing movie franchises of all time, grossing nearly $3 billion in box office sales worldwide. The latest movie in the franchise, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, was released in 2023.
Other new sci-fi movies and shows that have made the transition to the stage include Stranger Things: The First Shadow, now playing at the Phoenix Theatre in London.
Matthew Dunster’s next project is directing Lily Allen in Hedda, a new adaptation of Ibsen’s Hedda Gabler, at the Theatre Royal Bath.
The Hunger Games On Stage is playing at the Troubadour Canary Wharf Theatre in London from 20 October 2025.
