The Almeida Theatre in London is bringing back its successful musical version of American Psycho.
Based on the novel by Bret Easton Ellis, which was turned into a blockbuster movie starring Christian Bale, American Psycho has a book by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (Glee), and music and lyrics by Duncan Sheik (Spring Awakening).
Outgoing artistic director of the Almeida Theatre, Rupert Goold (Dear England), once again directs.
The production will run at the Almeida Theatre from 24 January to 14 March 2026.
The story centres on Patrick Bateman: he has it all – looks, money, style and status. Engaged to the beautiful Evelyn Williams, he is about to win the prestigious Fischer account for his investment bank and celebrate by dining at Dorsia. But there’s another side to his life that Patrick keeps secret. And people – including those closest to him – keep disappearing…
The original 2013 production at the Almeida was designed by Es Devlin, and starred Matt Smith, Jonathan Bailey, Lucie Jones, Katie Brayben and Hugh Skinner.
The announcement about American Psycho is part of the Almeida’s 2026 new season, the last of the venue’s artistic director Rupert Goold.
