London may have been doing it for years, but Broadway is getting the live-broadcast experience next month.
The hit new Broadway play Good Night, and Good Luck starring George Clooney will be broadcast live on CNN on Saturday 7 June 2025 at 7pm (Eastern Standard Time).
The show is George Clooney’s Broadway debut, and has proved box-office gold, recently becoming the highest-grossing play in Broadway history, and the first play to surpass a gross of $4 million in a single week.
The production also recently subsidised 2,000 tickets for New York City high school students, including those studying journalism, to attend the show.
The penultimate performance of the play will be broadcast live, with also special coverage airing before and after the show focusing on the themes of the production, including the current state of journalism.
It’s a Broadway first, as never before has a live performance of a play been televised.
Good Night, and Good Luck is adapted from the 2005 film co-written and directed by George Clooney, and dramatises TV journalist Edward R. Murrow’s historic clash with Senator Joseph McCarthy during the Red Scare.
Clooney co-wrote the play with Grant Heslov, with the two serving as lead producers, and the show is directed by Tony Award-winner David Cromer.
George Clooney said in a statement: “I can’t tell you how exciting it is to do something that’s never been done. CNN is the perfect place to bring this story of courage to so many more people than we could have ever hoped. Live TV. No net. Buckle up everyone.”

George Clooney has been nominated for a 2025 Tony Award for his role in Good Night, And Good Luck, with the show nominated for five awards overall.
Following the live CNN broadcast, the performance is expected to be available to stream, although details are to be announced, including whether it will be available to UK audiences.

Ward Duffy, Joe Forbrich, Imani Rousselle, Greg Stuhr, JD Taylor, and Sophia Tzougros.
