Rufus Wainwright’s musical Opening Night is getting a one-night-only concert performance in New York.

The concert will take place at The Town Hall in New York City on 15 September 2025.

A star-studded line-up of special guest performers will include Sara Bareilles, Laura Benanti, Darren Criss, Patti LuPone, and Elizabeth Teeter.

The concert is taking place to celebrate the release of the original West End live cast recording of Opening Night, which will be released on 12 September 2025.

The concert will benefit ACLU’s LGBTQ and HIV Project.

Based on John Cassavetes’ film, Opening Night ran in the West End in 2024. A slate of bad reviews saw the show leave the Gielgud Theatre in London early.

The West End production starred Sheridan Smith (Shirley ValentineFunny GirlLegally Blonde, Cilla) as Myrtle, with Hadley Fraser (The Lehman Trilogy, City of Angels) as Manny, Shira Haas (Unorthodox) as Nancy, Nicola Hughes (Fosse, Porgy & Bess) as Sarah, Amy Lennox (Cabaret, Kinky Boots) as Dorothy and John Marquez (Pygmalion, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels) as David.

The musical has a Book by Ivo Van Hove with Music and Lyrics by Rufus Wainwright, and was originally directed and conceived by Ivo Van Hove.
