Theatre Royal Bath have released production photos for its revival of George Orwell’s 1984 starring Keith Allen, and directed by Lindsay Posner.
This multi-media adaptation, penned by Ryan Craig, brings a fresh and thrilling interpretation of Orwell’s chilling vision of a dystopian future, marking the novel’s 75th anniversary.
Ryan Craig’s thrilling new multi-media version of George Orwell’s chillingly prescient novel has been one of Theatre Royal Bath’s most exciting and talked about productions of the year.
Leading actor, comedian and musician Keith Allen (The Young Ones, The Pembrokeshire Murders, The Homecoming, Pinter 3) plays the manipulative O’Brien. Joining him are Mark Quartley (BBC’s Inside Man, The Tempest, RSC) as Winston, Eleanor Wyld (Macbeth, The Merchant of Venice, Shakespeare’s Globe) as Julia, and David Birrell (King John, RSC, Bodies, Netflix) as Parsons.
The production’s innovative multi-media design features on-screen performances from stars such as Nicholas Woodeson as Big Brother, Mathew Horne, Doña Croll and Janie Dee, with Niamh Bennett, Paul Sockett, Lewis Hart as Ensemble.

1984 is atTheatre Royal Bath until 28 September 2024, before embarking on a UK tour to Malvern, Poole, Guildford, Cambridge, Brighton, Richmond and Liverpool.
The creative team behind this visually stunning revival include Justin Nardella (Set, Costume and Video Designer), Paul Pyant (Lighting Designer) and Giles Thomas (Sound Designer), with Associate Video Designer Stanley Orwin-Fraser, Casting Director Ginny Schiller CDG, Associate Director George Jibson and Assistant Designer Lorelei Cairns.
