The winners have been announced for this year’s Edinburgh Comedy Awards 2024.
Now in their 42nd year, the Awards celebrate the best of both up-and-coming comedy and brand-new performers at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and spotlight the next generation of comedy talent.
Winner of Best Comedy Show 2024 was Amy Gledhill for Amy Gledhill: Make Me Look Fit On The Poster. The Yorkshire comic took home the £10,000 top prize.
The Best Newcomer Award went to Joe Kent-Walters, who is also from Yorkshire, and won for his Joe Kent-Walters is Frankie Monroe: LIVE!!! show, playing white-faced, old-school entertainer Frankie Monroe.
The Victoria Wood Award 2024, previously known as the panel prize and awarded by the judging panel for the show that best represents the spirit of the Edinburgh Fringe, went to Rob Copland. Rob performed his experimental stand-up show Rob Copland: Gimme (One With Everything) at this year’s Fringe.
Kent-Walters and Copland both receive £5,000 each.
The 42nd Edinburgh Comedy Awards ceremony announcing the winners took place in Edinburgh on Saturday 24 August 2024.
The awards are championed and sponsored by West End theatre owner and producer Nica Burns CBE, who is Awards Director, and Donald Taffner (Jnr) of DLT Entertainment and The Victoria Wood Foundation.

This year, a total of 563 comedy shows were eligible for the Awards. The Awards Judging Panel and scouts operate an open-access, independent, thorough, inclusive and fair judging process comprising of senior members of the comedy industry, comedy critics and comedy fans representing the public.
The panel of judges for 2024 were: Nana Hughes (Panel Chair), Head of Scripted Comedy at ITV; Dominic Cavendish, Theatre Critic at The Daily Telegraph; Liz Daramola, Creator in Residence at Baby Cow Productions; Georgia Keating, Producer at BBC Studios Comedy & Entertainment; Dominic Maxwell, Comedy & Theatre Critic for The Times and The Sunday Times; Anya Ryan, Comedy & Theatre Critic at The Guardian, The Times, TimeOut & The Stage; Darren Smith, Creative Director at DLT Entertainment Ltd; Sam Anderson, Public panellist; Jake Helliwell, Public panellist; and Beth Moon, Public panellist.
The scouts were: Paul Abbey, Alexandra Caven, Dave Deverick, Jane Dempsey, Joe Gardner, Steve Morton, Sam Moulton , Patrick Nicholls, Tim O’Connor, Grainne Smyth, Ross Stark and Michael Thomson.
Last year’s 2023 Awards saw Ahir Shah win for ‘Ends’, and Best Newcomer was Urooj Ashfaq for ‘Oh No!’. The Victoria Wood went to Gareth Richards.
Other Edinburgh Awards announced include The List Festival Awards 2024, The Scotman’s Edinburgh Fringe First Awards 2024, and U&Dave’s Funniest Joke of the Edinburgh Fringe Award 2024.
