Disney has confirmed that smash-hit London musical Frozen has been filmed, and will be streamed on Disney+ in 2025.
The hit show is currently playing at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in London until 8 September 2024.
The news came at Disney’s annual D23 fan event in California, which included a special performance of “Let It Go” sung by star of the London show, Samantha Barks, who plays Elsa in the West End production.
Other shows featured during the performance, which celebrated 30 years of Disney’s theatrical stage division, included Disney’s The Lion King, Aladdin, and Hercules.
Frozen has music and lyrics by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, a book by Jennifer Lee, and is directed by Michael Grandage.
The cast of the show also includes Laura Dawkes as Anna, with Jammy Kasongo as Kristoff, Craig Gallivan as Olaf, Oliver Ormson as Hans, Richard Frame as Duke of Weselton, and alternating the role of Sven is Mikayla Jade and Ashley Birchall.
Young Elsa is played by Wren Erskine, Elizabeth Lyons, Phoebe Penfold, Aanya Shah, and Young Anna is played by Maddy Collings, Azaelea Zona Omar Harris, Tabitha Storton, Martha Bailey Vine. The cast also features Rhianne Alleyne, Marianne Bardgett, Rebecca Botterill, Gabrielle Cocca, Laura Emmitt, Jemal Felix, Jordan Fox, Molly Francis, Matt Gillett, Dominic Adam Griffin, Jordan Livesey, Isabella Glanznig Santos, Ben Irish (Pabbie), Justin-Lee Jones, Aoife Kenny, Harriet Samuels, Jacqui Sanchez (Queen Iduna), Jak Skelly (Oaken/Bishop, Caitlin Tipping, Anna Woodside, Rodney Vubya, Oliver Brenin, Ashley J Daniels (King Agnarr), Lizzy-Rose Esin-Kelly (Bulda), George Hinson, Jonathan Milton, and Ed Wade.
The creative team for Frozen includes choreography by Rob Ashford, set and costume design by Christopher Oram, lighting design by Neil Austin, sound design by Peter Hylenski, video design by Finn Ross, puppet design by Michael Curry and musical supervision and arrangements by Stephen Oremus.
Also announced at Disney’s D23 last night was a new stage musical of The Greatest Showman, based on the hit movie.
Coming to the Theatre Royal Drury Lane following the departure of Frozen in September will be Jamie Lloyd’s new season of Shakespeare, featuring The Tempest starring Sigourney Weaver and Much Ado About Nothing starring Tom Hiddleston and Hayley Atwell.
Also scheduled for the Theatre Royal Drury Lane from next June 2025 is a new production of Disney’s Hercules, based on their much-loved animated movie. Hercules was showcased by Disney at last night’s D23.
