The new 20th anniversary national tour of Alan Bennett’s much-loved play The History Boys has revealed casting and more tour dates.
The tour kicks off at the Theatre Royal Bath next month from 22 to 31 August 2024, and then tours including Bath, Truro, Nottingham, Plymouth, Cheltenham, Cambridge, Coventry, Malvern, Aberdeen, and Richmond. See below for full tour dates.
The History Boys will star Simon Rouse as Hector, Milo Twomey as Headmaster, Gillian Bevanas as Mrs. Lintott and Bill Milner as Irwin; and the students will be played by Archie Christoph-Allen as Dakin, Lewis Cornay as Posner, Teddy Hinde as Timms, Yazdan Qafouri as Scripps, Ned Costello as Rudge, Mahesh Parmar as Akthar, Tashinga Bepete as Crowther, Curtis Kemlo as Lockwood and Zrey Sholapurkar as ensemble.

Directed by Seán Linnen, the creative team for the show also includes Set and Costume Designer Grace Smart, Lighting Designer Ryan Day, Composer, Arranger & Sound Designer Russell Ditchfield, Movement Director Chi-San Howard, Casting Director Matilda James CDG, Musical Director Eamonn O’Dwyer, and Assistant Director Emily Oulton.
Set against the backdrop of A-Level results day at Cutler’s Grammar School in 1980s Sheffield, The History Boys delves into the lives of eight spirited teenagers who aspire to secure spots at Oxford and Cambridge universities, and the teachers assisting them to do this.
The original National Theatre production launched the careers of James Corden, Dominic Cooper, Russell Tovey, Jamie Parker, Sacha Dhawan and Samuel Barnet, with the late Richard Griffiths playing their history teacher. Nicholas Hytner’s production was also made into an acclaimed film.
