New West End manga musical Your Lie in April is starting CosPlay Sundays at the Harold Pinter Theatre in London.
Your Lie in April is based on the global hit Japanese manga and anime, and fans are being encouraged to come dressed as their favourite characters inspired by the show – or other manga/animes, on Sundays.
The CosPlay Sundays start on 28 July 2024 for the 6pm show, and continue on all following Sundays at 6pm until the end of the run on 21 September.
Show programmes at that performance will be branded with special limited edition CosPlay Sundays stickers.
Producers of the show said in a statement: “The lead cast were delighted to meet scores of fans in Your Lie in April CosPlay during our panel and presentation at the recent MCM London Comic Con and lots of others have attended regular performances since at the Howard Pinter Theatre. The fans’ love for the Your Lie in April manga, anime and now stage musical has been amazing to witness. We now want to give over one dedicated show every week for CosPlay fans to come and celebrate together in a safe environment with a special ticket offer, limited edition programme and an exclusive deal on show merchandise.”
There are some stipulations! Mainly that Cosplayers should be aware that the Harold Pinter Theatre is a raked seated venue with limited cloakroom facilities; and that Cosplay costumes should leave you free to sit comfortably in a theatre seat, not feature large hats or headpieces that would obscure the view of anyone sitting behind or next to you, and not include any weapons. Also, as the production is a family event, CosPlayers need to make sure that their costume is suitable for all age groups.
Your Lie in April stars Zheng Xi Yong (Spring Awakening, Barbie, Silo) as Kosei Arima, alongside Rachel Clare Chan (Death Note, Oliver!) as Tsubaki Sawabe, Dean John-Wilson (The King and I, Aladdin) as Ryota Watari, and Mia Kobayashi as Kaori Miyazono.
The cast also includes Ernest Stroud, Jojo Meredith, Chris Fung, Eu Jin Hwang, Daniel Nardone, Ericka Posadas, Lucy Park, Gracie Lai, Imogen Law Hing Choy and Ria Tanaka.
Your Lie in April, one of the most beloved romantic stories and tearjerkers in Japanese manga history, features music by multi-Grammy, Tony, and Emmy Award-nominated Broadway composer Frank Wildhorn (Death Note The Musical, Jekyll & Hyde, Bonnie & Clyde), with lyrics by Carly Robyn Green and Tracy Miller. The production is directed and choreographed by Nick Winston (Burlesque The Musical, Death Note The Musical, Fame, Annie, Bonnie & Clyde).
The romantic story centres on the story of Kōsei Arima, a young piano prodigy who is unable to play following his mother’s death. He strikes a friendship with violinist Kaori Miyazono and she slowly encourages him to perform again.
Your Lie in April is playing the Harold Pinter Theatre to 21 September 2024.
