Musical revue Sondheim on Sondheim is getting a new concert version at the Alexandra Palace Theatre in London in October.
Honouring the music of legendary composer Stephen Sondheim, the glitzy concert will feature a number of stage and screen stars including Fra Fee (Lost Boys and Fairies, Cabaret), Georgina Onuorah (Kiss Me Kate, Oklahoma!), Jenna Russell (EastEnders, Hello, Dolly!), and Scarlett Strallen (Mary Poppins, A Chorus Line).
The performers will be accompanied by a live 14-piece orchestra.
The show promises an intimate portrait of Sondheim in his own words and music, and also uses exclusive interview footage allowing audiences to get an inside look at the personal life and artistic process of the great composer.
The revue features songs from nineteen Sondheim musicals, including well-known, lesser-known, and cut material from shows produced over a 62-year period. Musicals represented include West Side Story, Company, Follies, A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum, Sunday In The Park With George, Merrily We Roll Along, Passion, Sweeney Todd, Into The Woods, and more.
The show is directed by Paul Foster, with Musical Director Alex Parker, Choreographer Joanna Goodwin, Lighting Designer Jack Weir, Sound Designer Paul Smith, and Video Designer Neil McDowell Smith.
Sondheim on Sondheim in Concert is playing the Alexandra Palace Theatre on 20 and 21 October 2024.
Jenna Russell is about to star in a big-budget new production of Hello, Dolly! at the London Palladium starring Imelda Staunton, from 6 July. Georgina Onuorah is currently starring in Cole Porter musical Kiss Me, Kate at the Barbican Theatre, until 14 September 2024.
