News is out about the movie-to-stage adaptation of musical La La Land.
What’s On Stage has revealed that workshops are continuing for the new stage adaptation of the Oscar winning movie La La Land.
Tony Award-winning director Bartlett Sher (My Fair Lady, The King & I) is helming the project, produced by Broadway impresario Marc Platt (Wicked, Dear Evan Hansen).
The La La Land movie, written and directed by Damien Chazelle and starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, scored six Oscars at the 2017 awards.
The movie had a score by Justin Hurwitz (Whiplash, Babylon) and lyrics by Pasek and Paul (Dear Evan Hansen).
Bartlett Sher told What’s On Stage that he is “still working on La La Land. We are working with producer Marc Platt, who is also the producer of Wicked, so it’s the same group. We’re in the middle of workshops and trying to find a theatrical language for this amazing film. So we’re in the middle of that right now, and when I’m done with this, I go back to New York for some more workshops.”
Bartlett Sher is in town to direct Cole Porter’s musical Kiss Me, Kate, which is playing at the Barbican Theatre this summer starring Adrian Dunbar, Stephanie J. Block, Charlie Stemp, Georgina Onuorah, Peter Davison, Nigel Lindsay and Hammed Animashaun.
