London’s Turbine Theatre in Battersea has announced casting for its forthcoming revival of Pet Shop Boys musical Closer to Heaven.

The show will feature West End star Frances Ruffelle (Les Miserables, Starlight Express) as Billie Trix and Courtney Bowman (Legally Blonde The Musical, Six) as Shell Christian, with Glenn Adamson (Bat Out Of Hell) as Dave, Connor Carson (The Phantom Of The Opera) as Lee, Kurt Kansley (RENT) as Vic Christian, David Muscat (Billy Elliot) as Bob Saunders, Lewis Brown (Queenz) as Flynn, and Beth Curnock, Jamie Tait and Cian Hughes as Babes.

Closer to Heaven has an original club score by international pop stars Pet Shop Boys, and a book by award-winner Jonathan Harvey (Beautiful Thing, Here You Come Again).

This production is directed by Simon Hardwick with choreography by Christopher Tendai with casting by Will Burton CDG. Further creatives are to be announced.

The 2001 musical is set in London’s club scene at the Millennium, with the Turbine Theatre is set to be transformed into Vic’s Club for the production.

A revival of Matthew Todd’s 2005 drama Blowing Whistles directed by Jonathan O’Boyle had been scheduled to play ahead of Closer to Heaven but has not gone ahead.

Closer to Heaven is playing at the Turbine Theatre from 31 May to 30 June 2024.
