Full casting has been announced for the West End revival of Duncan Macmillan’s award-winning play People, Places and Things.
Directed by Jeremy Herrin (Long Day’s Journey Into Night, A Mirror), the show will play the Trafalgar Theatre in London from May 2024.
Already announced is the play’s star, Denise Gough, who reprises her Olivier Award-winning role as Emma, a struggling actress whose life is spinning recklessly out of control.
The cast will also feature Sinéad Cusack (V for Vendetta, Rock ‘n’ Roll) as Doctor/Therapist/Mum, Malachi Kirby (Small Axe: Mangrove, Anansi Boys) as Mark, Danny Kirrane (The Sandman, The Serpent Queen) as Foster, and Kevin McMonagle (Scoop, Best of Enemies) as Dad/Paul.
Further casting includes Holly Atkins (This Country, Sons of the Prophet) as Charlotte, Paksie Vernon (Shetland, Angels in America: Part One) as Jodi, Ryan Hutton (A Midsummer’s Night Dream, Only Fools and Horses) as Shaun, Ayọ̀ Owóyẹmi-Peters as Laura, and Dillon Scott-Lewis (Piglets, & Juliet) as T.
Completing the company are Russell Anthony (Call the Midwife, Trouble in Butetown) and Louise Templeton (Jayson Bend: Queen and Country).

Joining Jeremy Herrin in the creative team are set designer, Bunny Christie; costume designer, Christina Cunningham; lighting designer, James Farncombe; music, Matthew Herbert; sound designer, Tom Gibbons; video designer, Andrzej Goulding; movement director, Polly Bennett; casting by Jessica Ronane CDG CSA; and original casting by Wendy Spon.
Duncan Macmillan’s critically acclaimed play saw Denise Gough win Best Actress at the 2016 Olivier Awards and at the Critics’ Circle Theatre Awards for her career defining performance as Emma in People Places and Things at the National Theatre in 2015. The production then transferred to Wyndham’s Theatre in March 2016 in London’s West End before transferring to St. Ann’s Warehouse in New York in October 2017.
The play is produced by the National Theatre, Mark Gordon Pictures, Gavin Kalin Productions, Seaview and Second Half Productions, and originally co-produced by the National Theatre and Headlong.
Director Jeremy Herrin’s other productions currently playing in the West End at the moment include Long Day’s Journey Into Night at the Wyndham’s Theatre starring Brian Cox, and A Mirror at the Trafalgar Theatre starring Jonny Lee Miller. It was announced yesterday that Herrin will direct Ralph Fiennes in new David Hare play Grace Pervades at Theatre Royal Bath next year. He is also directing a new stage adaptation of John le Carré’s The Spy Who Came in from the Cold at Chichester Festival Theatre.
People, Places and Things will run at the Trafalgar Theatre in London from 3 May to 10 August 2024.
