A brand new trailer has dropped for hit West End musical Hadestown, now playing at the Lyric Theatre in London.
The show scored some great reviews from the critics when it opened last month.
Hadestown boasts music, lyrics and book by Grammy winning singer-songwriter Anaïs Mitchell, and is directed by Tony Award winner Rachel Chavkin (Mission Drift, Hadestown on Broadway).
The musical’s West End run has been much anticipated, as it’s five years since it first premiered at the National Theatre in 2018, and comes to London direct from a smash-hit run on Broadway where it won 8 Tony Awards including Best Musical, and a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theatre Album.
The West End company of Hadestown stars Dónal Finn (Amazon Prime’s The Wheel of Time) as Orpheus; Grace Hodgett Young (Sunset Boulevard) as Eurydice; Grammy Award-winner Zachary James (The Addams Family) as Hades; Melanie La Barrie (& Juliet) as Hermes and Gloria Onitiri (Cinderella) as Persephone.
The Three Fates are played by Madeline Charlemagne, Allie Daniel and Bella Brown; the Workers are played by Lauren Azania, Tiago Dhondt Bamberger, Beth Hinton-Lever, Waylon Jacobs and Christopher Short; and Swings are Lucinda Buckley, Ryesha Higgs, Miriam Nyarko and Simon Oskarsson.
The musical intertwines two mythic love stories – that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of King Hades and his wife Persephone. Billed as a deeply resonant and defiantly hopeful theatrical experience, Hadestown blends modern American folk music with New Orleans-inspired jazz.
Hadestown is playing at the Lyric Theatre London and booking to 22 December 2024.
