Told from a Parisian kitchen in the late 1930s, ceramicist Marie eagerly awaits her estranged childhood friend, and now celebrated artist, Henrietta Tirman. As the imminent arrival of her old friend pushes Marie to reflect on her life, love and loss against the backdrop of the great joys and sorrows of a life devoted to making art.
In Clay has book and lyrics by Rebecca Simmonds, and music and lyrics by Jack Miles.
The show is directed by Grace Taylor, with Orchestrations & Arrangements by Matt Herbert, Set & Costume Design by Rachael Ryan, Lighting Design by Chris McDonnell, and the Associate Conductor is Josh Cottell.
First presented at the VAULT Festival in 2023 where it was nominated for Show of the Week and shortlisted for an Off-Fest Award, In Clay is playing at Upstairs at the Gatehouse from 13 March to 7 April 2024.
