Earlier this month ITV talent competition Mamma Mia! I Have a Dream was won by Stevie Doc and Tobias Turley.
The two contestants scored the ultimate showbiz prize: to star in a West End show, with Stevie is set to play Sophie in hit West End musical Mamma Mia!, and Tobias to play Sky.
The pair will make their debuts in Mamma Mia! from 29 January 2024, with tickets on sale now.
But what about the other 10 contestants who starred in the TV talent show? Well, three of them have already bagged parts in West End shows!
The ITV show set out to cast a new Sophie and Sky for the London production of hit ABBA musical Mamma Mia!, and was filmed on a Greek Island, where the show is set. It started with 14 Sophie and Sky hopefuls: Desmonda, Esme, Leah, Maddy, Maisie, Stephanie & Stevie; and Callum, Craig, Darcy, Marcellus, Owen, Tobias & Zachkiel.
They were slowly eliminated down to four final contestants by the judges – West End star of Frozen The Musical at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, Samantha Barks (from 7 February 2024); Olivier Award-winning TV and stage star Amber Riley (Glee, The Wiz, Dreamgirls); comedian Alan Carr; and singer songwriter Jessie Ware.
Since the show aired, and Stevie and Tobias were crowed the winners, three of the other contestants have been cast in shows.
Craig Watson in Cruel Intentions: The 90s Musical
Yesterday it was announced that Craig Watson, who left the TV talent show in the Episode 7 semi-final along with Stephanie, has been cast in new stage show Cruel Intentions: The 90s Musical, coming to The Other Palace theatre in London from 11 January 2024.
Craig is understudying the lead character of Sebastian Valmont. Craig was recently Swing, Fight Captain, and U/S Falco and Jagwire in the Bat Out of Hell UK and international tour and Doug/Mr Spencer, cover Theo in the School of Rock UK tour.
Desmonda Cathabel in Disney’s Aladdin UK Tour
Desmonda Cathabel left Mamma Mia! I have a Dream in Episode 6, alongside Marcellus. Desmonda had already performed in a number of shows including as Alternate Kim in Miss Saigon at the Sheffield Crucible, and Lorene in From Here To Eternity at the Charing Cross Theatre.
And ahead of Desmonda featuring in Mamma Mia! I Have a Dream, it was announced that she would star as Jasmine in the first date of the new UK Tour of Disney’s Aladdin in Edinburgh. Then, in December, once she had been eliminated from the talent show, it was announced that she would go on to play Jasmine for all of the dates of the forthcoming Disney’s Aladdin UK and Ireland tour.
Zachkiel Smith in Back to the Future
Zachkiel Smith, 21, finished up in Mamma Mia! I Have a Dream in Episode 5, along with Leah.
Since leaving the show, Zachkiel has been cast in smash-hit London musical Back to the Future, and is set to make his West End stage debut in January 2024 at the Adelphi Theatre, playing Ensemble/2nd Cover Goldie Wilson/Marvin Berry.
Other Contestants
We expect to have more news about the other contestants soon. For example, Maisie Waller was gifted a scholarship at the London School of Musical Theatre for a year’s professional training by Mamma Mia! producer Judy Cramer – so expect to hear more from Maisie in the coming months.
Congrats to all of the contestants on the show, and we can’t wait to hear about more of their casting news.
