The West End is getting a new fringe venue, with the opening of the Stage Door Theatre at The Prince of Wales pub in Drury Lane.
Led by artistic director Adam Spreadbury-Maher, the 100-seat venue will offer theatre and dinner packages alongside show-only tickets.
The venue has hosted a number of shows in the past, including an annual pantomime, but is now officially rebranding as the Stage Door Theatre.
The first production at the new venue will be a transfer of hit fringe play Strangers in Between, which played the Golden Goose Theatre earlier this year.
Strangers in Between will run at the Stage Door Theatre from 8 January to 3 February 2024.
Produced by LAMBCO Productions, who primarily produced LGBTQ+ themed work, the Australian drama by Tommy Murphy (Holding The Man), is once again directed by Adam Spreadbury-Maher, and designed by David Shields.
LAMBCO’s Executive producer Richard Lambert is also behind the new venue.
Returning to the show are cast Stephen Connery-Brown (The Sum of Us, Pygmalion) as Peter and Alex Ansdell as Shane, who were both Offie nominated for the production.
Australian diver Matthew Mitcham, who starred as Ben/Will in the previous production, will not transfer with the show, and casting for this role will be announced.
Strangers in Between is an unflinching look at the highs and lows of growing up gay in modern Australia, bursting with laugh-out-loud one-liners, simmering sexual tension and heartfelt confessions.
Ahead of Strangers in Between, the Prince of Wales pub will host adult pantomime Jack And His Giant Bigstalk from 8 to 22 December 2023, starring Simon Gross (Big Brother) as the Evil Queen Genetalia, Monroe Adams and Fairy Barbie, Lewis Adey as Jack, Kitty Hosty as Jill, Joseph Greenwood as Daisy The Cow, and Tom White as Dame Trott.
