A musical to follow Frank and Percy into The Other Palace
Ben Weatherill’s new play Frank and Percy starring Ian McKellen and Roger Allam is extending its run at The Other Palace theatre in London.
Due to phenomenal demand for tickets, and limited availability for the existing run, two weeks of new performances have been added.
Directed by Sean Mathias, Frank and Percy will now end on Sunday 17 December – with tickets now on sale.
The Other Palace also announced today that following the run of Frank and Percy, the venue will go back to playing musicals, with an as-yet-unspecified musical production to play in the main house and be announced soon.
Prior to Frank and Percy, Heathers The Musical had a long run in The Other Palace. The theatre’s owner, and producer of Frank and Percy – Bill Kenwright, currently has a new production of Calendar Girls The Musical touring the country.
Frank and Percy recently ran at the Theatre Royal Windsor and Theatre Royal Bath, enjoying strong reviews when it opened at the Theatre Royal Windsor.
The play is billed as a poignant and witty take on the unexpected relationship that blossoms between two men. Devoted to their dogs, they believe that human connection is far more temperamental. But as their dogs play in the park, can Frank, a widowed schoolteacher and Percy, a somewhat radical elder statesman, find the time for new infatuation, or should they just let sleeping dogs lie?
Ian McKellen stars as Percy in the play, alongside multi Olivier Award winning actor Roger Allam as Frank.
Sir Ian McKellen is one of Britain’s greatest actors, performing on stage and screen, including as Gandalf in the Lord of the Rings films, and in The X-Men Trilogy. Ian McKellen was recently starring in the West End in panto Mother Goose, which played the Duke of York’s Theatre in London, and finished in Bristol on 16 April 2023.
Roger Allam’s many starring appearances on stage, television, film and radio over the past three decades include, on stage, Javert in the original cast of Les Misérables, Michael Frayn’s Democracy and the hugely successful revival of Boeing Boeing opposite Mark Rylance.
Alongside Sean Mathias in the creative team are Morgan Large (design), Nick Richings (lighting design) and Andy Graham (sound design).

The play reunites two of the greatest actors of a generation in an intimate setting, beautifully directed by Sean Mathias.”
