The venue of the new ABBA Voyage concert is set to open on 27 May 2021.
ABBA has revealed the first images of the new, state-of-the-art venue to be built to host ABBA Voyage.
Based in London and Hong Kong, Stufish are entertainment and concert specialists, and design sets for artists including Beyonce, Madonna, The Rolling Stones, Queen + Adam Lambert and Elton John.
The temporary ABBA Arena venue is taking up a huge6,710m² space, and is to be mainly built from timber with a timber cladding. It has been designed to be demountable and re-usable – so maybe once they are done in London, they will be off to other cities in the UK and around the world.
ABBA Arena will be located on the site of a car park site in Barbers Road, next to Pudding Mill DLR station in East London. Which doesn’t sound glamorous but we are sure it will be.
The venue will allow concert-goers to either have general admission, a seat in the auditorium, or your own dance booth!
The London Legacy Development Corporation gave its approval for the pop-up arena in March 2020, and it is able to stay on the plot for five years. They even thought the design had the potential to be beautiful – and looking at the designs, we do too.
The main auditorium has been designed to create an ‘internal clear span of 61m and allow for a 360-degree immersive experience’, plus the space will have a box office, backstage facilities and storage, shops, food stalls, bars and a covered concourse.
We can’t wait for ABBA Voyage to open on 27 May 2022.
And in the meantime, don’t forget that Mamma Mia! The Musical continues to wow theatregoers at the Novello Theatre in London.
