The iconic Tower of London is one of the world’s most famous buildings. It has been part of British history since the early 1080’s when William the Conqueror started to build a massive stone tower at the centre of his fortress.
Over the centuries successive monarchs have added to this London landmark, which has been a fortress, a palace and a prison.
At the Tower of London visit The White Tower, a World Heritage Site, take a tour with a Beefeater guard, and see the famous ravens kept at the Tower of London to prevent the kingdom – and the tower – from falling down.
Not to be missed is a visit Tower Green, the site of numerous executions including three of Henry VIII’s wives, and the home of the Crown Jewels – the greatest working collection of priceless Crown Jewels in the world, including the Imperial State Crown, which alone has 2,868 diamonds, 273 pearls, 17 sapphires, 11 emeralds and 5 rubies.
The Tower of London features the Royal Beasts exhibition, an interactive and sensory exhibition telling the unique and fascinating story of London’s first “zoo”. Also inside the White Tower witness Fit for a King, an exhibition featuring 500 years of spectacular royal armour and insight into the personalities, power and size of England’s kings.
