What’s the Story?
With bright red hair stacked atop her 4ft 11in frame and eyes and lips heavily made up, in the 70s and 80s Tammy Faye Bakker was religion’s answer to Dolly Parton.
An evangelist superstar beamed into the homes of Christian America, Tammy Faye and her husband Jim Bakker became the most successful televangelists of their time. Amidst the scandal of her husband’s infidelity, their excessive spending and eventual fall from grace Tammy re-emerged with her faith intact to become a gay-icon and promoter of tolerance.
