Tom Mothersdale will take on the iconic role of Shakespeare’s most notorious villain Richard III in a new production at Alexandra Palace.
The ‘Peaky Blinders‘ actor’s numerous stage credits include John, Cleansed (National); Oil (Almeida); The Glass Menagerie, Boys, Romeo & Juliet (Headlong); Crave, 4.48 Psychosis (Crucible, Sheffield); The Cherry Orchard (Young Vic); King Lear (BAM, NYC/ Chichester Festival) and An Ideal Husband (West End).
Richard III will open at Bristol Old Vic on 1 March 2019 before touring to the newly refurbished Alexandra Palace, HOME Manchester, Oxford Playhouse and Royal and Derngate Northampton, with another stop at Bristol Old Vic in April 2019.
Headlong artistic director Jeremy Herrin said: “The production promises to be an investigation of the mind of a tyrant; and with Tom Mothersdale in the title role, and directed by the talented John Haidar, it promises to be a deeply engaging event.”
Directed by John Haidar (Disco Pigs, The Little Match Girl), the play – a Headlong, Bristol Old Vic and Alexandra Palace co-production – will have design by Chiara Stephenson, lighting by Elliot Griggs and sound & composition by George Dennis.
