ABOUT Hello, Dolly!
Hello, Dolly! starring Bette Midler looks to London
Winner of 4 Tony Awards® including Best Revival of a Musical and Best Actress in a Musical (Bette Midler), the universally acclaimed Broadway revival of Hello, Dolly! is rumoured to open at London’s Dominion Theatre in 2019.
Directed by four-time Tony winner Jerry Zaks, this “impeccable blend of spectacle and star power” (Entertainment Weekly) pays tribute to the original work of legendary director/choreographer Gower Champion, hailed both then and now as one of the greatest stagings in musical theatre history.
This much-loved musical is based on Thornton Wilder’s 1955 play “The Matchmaker” and is the basis for the 1969 film directed by Gene Kelly and starring Barbra Streisand, Walter Matthau, and Michael Crawford.
Full dates and venue to be confirmed.
WHAT’S THE STORY?
The esteemed New York City matchmaker Dolly Gallagher Levi receives her toughest challenge yet when she travels to Yonkers to find a suitable wife for the miserly “well-known unmarried half-a-millionaire” Horace.
She successfully matches many others in the city, including Horace’s niece and two clerks, but everything seems to go wrong when it comes to Horace.
Dolly finally realises that Horace might be the man for her – if only her late husband would send her a sign – and if Horace himself will have her.
WHO’S IN IT? HELLO, DOLLY CAST!
Casting is yet to be announced but rumours suggest Bette Midler will reprise her role along with Britain’s rising star Charlie Stemp.
Music and lyrics by Jerry Herman and a book by Michael Stewart.
Directed by Jerry Zaks, with choreography by Warren Carlyle, set and costume design by Santo Loquasto, lighting design by Natasha Katz, sound design by Scott Lehrer.
