Lesley Manville stars in Long Day’s Journey Into Night at the Wyndham’s Theatre
Award winning actress Lesley Manville stars alongside Jeremy Irons in the West End transfer of Richard Eyre’s production of Eugene O’Neill’s Pulitzer prize-winning masterpiece.
In 2012, Lesley was nominated for an Olivier Award for her role in Mike Leigh’s play Grief (National Theatre 2011), before going on to win the 2014 Olivier Award for Best Actress for her role in the revival of Ghosts (Almeida 2013) directed by Richard Eyre.
Lesley’s extensive theatre credits include roles in Andrea Dunbar’s Rita, Sue and Bob Too and Caryl Churchill’s Top Girls at the Royal Court; Les Liaisons Dangereuses (RSC), His Dark Materials, The Alchemist, Her Naked Skin and Pillars of the Community for the National Theatre; The Cherry Orchard (Aldwych); and Six Degrees of Separation at the Old Vic theatre.
A frequent collaborator with director Mike Leigh, Lesley won the London Film Critics’ Circle Award for British Actress of the Year for her work in both his 2002 film All or Nothing and his 2010 film Another Year, for which she also won the National Board of Review Award for Best Actress.
Her TV appearances include An Adventure in Space and Time; Fleming; Mayday; Cranford; North & South; Bodily Harm; Other Peoples’ Children; Promoted to Glory; The Cazalets; David Copperfield; Painted Lady; The Bite; Holding On; Little Napoleons; Real Women; Tears Before Bedtime; A Statement of Affairs; Top Girls; Grown-Ups; The Firm.
Lesley Manville said “Shortly after Richard Eyre and I worked together on Ghosts he asked me if I’d be interested in doing Long Day’s Journey Into Night with him at Bristol. Ghosts is a big, emotional and epic play but not even that prepared me for the challenge of O’Neill’s masterpiece which is, by far, the hardest play I have ever done.
Long Day’s Journey Into Night will run from 27 January 2018 until 8 April 2018 at the Wyndham’s Theatre.
