That record is still held by We Will Rock You which performed 4659 performances at the Dominion Theatre. In its record-breaking run at the Lyric theatre, Thriller Live performed 4657 performances making it the theatre's longest running production and the 12th longest running West End musical of all time. Thriller Live becomes 20th longest-running West End show ever
Michael Jackson musical Thriller Live at the Lyric Theatre has made history by becoming the 20th longest-running West End musical in London theatre history. [caption id="" align="alignright" width="240"] Thriller Live at the Lyric Theatre[/caption] Now celebrating its 6th year in London, Thriller Live has played over 2,390 performances at the Lyric Theatre since it opened on 21 January 2009 and has sold over 3 million tickets worldwide. Thriller Live joins the Top 20 list by usurping My Fair Lady, which had played for 2,281 performances at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in the late 1950's. Thriller Live will shortly overtake Oliver! and Grease in the list, being around 130 shows away from beating Grease. Thriller Live announced earlier this month that the show was extending its booking period at the Lyric to 6 September 2015. The producers of the show, Paul Walden and Derek Nicol, said: "We are thrilled that Thriller Live has entered the record books and joined the exalted ranks of the 20 most popular long running shows in the history of the West End. We look forward to breaking more records in 2015!" Thriller Live is also the longest-running production ever at the Lyric Theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue over the famous venue's 125 year history.  Jersey Boys - 17th place Another new addition to the Top 20 is Jersey Boys, which has gone in at number 17 having played over 2,740 performances in the West End, first at the Prince Edward Theatre and now at the Piccadilly Theatre. Jersey Boys has pushed The Sound of Music off the list - it's 1951 production starring Mary Martin at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane having played for 2,385 shows. Unlike other West End productions, Thriller - Live is not a rigid book musical with set songs, but is a constantly evolving music concert celebration. When Michael Jackson died, the Lyric Theatre became a focus for fans from all over the world, who created a massive shrine of flowers, candles, and tributes. More than 40 books of condolence were signed in the foyer then sent to the Jackson family. A year after his death, a permanent West End memorial to Michael was unveiled in the theatre foyer. Thriller - Live brings to life on stage the distinctive high-energy dancing and pulsating sound of many of pop’s greatest hits, blending eyepopping video footage and effects together with dazzling choreography by the show’s award-winning director Gary Lloyd. The show has regularly been updated with additional songs, new visuals and choreography. To date, more than 30 young boys have so far sang the hits of the young MJ in the West End and around the world. The need to have six available at any one time has led the producers of Thriller - Live to launch an in-house training academy to train young boys. The MJ Academy opened its doors for the first time on Friday 9 November. Would-be MJs get classes in singing and dancing every Friday between 5pm and 8pm, with terms lasting three months . Thriller - Live was originally conceived and created by Executive Director of the show, Adrian Grant, a long time associate of Michael Jackson, and author of Michael Jackson – The Visual Documentary. Thriller - Live is produced by Paul Walden and Derek Nicol for Flying Music in association with Adrian Grant for Key Concerts.
