STORY

This wonderfully funny and heart-warming comedy charts the lives of seven women and one man attempting to tap their troubles away at a weekly dancing class. Initially all thumbs and left feet, the group is just getting to grip with the basics when they are asked to take part in a charity gala…

Over the course of several months we meet the group, and all of them have a story to tell, There’s haughty Vera, mouthy Maxine and uptight Andy; bubbly Sylvia and shy Dorothy; eager Lynne and cheerful Rose and, of course, Geoffrey. At the piano is the dour Mrs Fraser and spurring them all on, the ever-patient Mavis.

CAST

The cast includes Amanda Holden, Tracy-Ann Oberman, Tamzin Outhwaite, Natalie Casey and Nicola Stephenson.

The cast also features Judith Barker, Jessica-Alice McCluskey, Sandra Marvin and Dominic Rowan with Janet Behan, Suzy Bloom, Emma Hook, Marcia Mantack, Katie Verner and Nick Warnford.

Tamzin Outhwaite has temporarily withdrawn from the production due to injury. The role of Mavis will temporarily be played by Anna-Jane Casey (West Side Story, Chicago and Billy Elliot).

CREATIVE

Stepping Out is directed by Maria Friedman, designed by Robert Jones and choreographed by Tim Jackson with lighting design by Peter Mumford, sound design by Gregory Clarke and orchestrations by Christopher Walker.

Amanda Holden leads the West End revival of Stepping Out
Amanda Holden will lead the cast in the West End revival of Stepping Out. Directed by triple Olivier Award winner Maria Friedman, the cast also includes Angela Griffin (Coronation Street, One Man, Two Guvners), Tracy-Ann Oberman (Eastenders, Boeing-Boeing), Tamzin Outhwaite (New Tricks, Sweet Charity) and Nicola Stephenson (Brookside, War Horse). Richard Harris's Stepping Out is a heart-warming comedy which charts the lives of seven women and one man attempting to tap their troubles away at a weekly dancing class. Initially all thumbs and left feet, over several months we learn each character has a story to tell with the show culminating in a tap number. Stepping Out was the winner of the Evening Standard Comedy of the Year Award, 1984. It was also made into a musical, which became a film in 1991, starring Liza Minnelli and Julie Walters. The current West End revival is driven by Holden who saw the movie one Christmas and decided it would be the perfect project for her and a couple of friends to do. Buying the scripts off Amazon she sent them to friends with a note to pick a part. She said the hardest part was having to tap badly. Holden is best known for her television work including Wild at Heart, Kiss Me Kate, The Grimleys, Big Top, presenting This Morning and for being a judge on Britain’s Got Talent throughout all of its ten series. Her West End credits include Shrek The Musical and Thoroughly Modern Millie, for which she was nominated for an Olivier Award. Stepping Out runs from 1 March 2017 until 17 June 2017 at the Vaudeville Theatre. BOOKING Book tickets to Stepping Out
