ABOUT The Seagull - Young Chekhov Season
The Seagull- Young Chekhov Season at the National Theatre
Exploring the birth of a revolutionary dramatic voice, the Young Chekhov Trilogy comes to the National Theatre following its acclaimed run at Chichester Festival Theatre in 2015.
These three plays, written when Anton Chekhov was young, offer a new perspective on the dramatist, revealing a youthful anger and romanticism that is very different to his mature, more familiar work.
Newly adapted by David Hare (Skylight, Pravada)and directed by Jonathan Kent (Gypsy, Private Lives), the productions, present a unique theatrical event which will see a repertory cast of actors performing 50 parts in Platonov, Ivanov and The Seagull.
The Seagull runs until 8 October 2016 at the National Theatre.
On a summer’s day in a makeshift theatre by a lake, Konstantin’s cutting-edge new play is performed, changing the lives of everyone involved forever.
Chekhov’s masterly meditation on how the old take revenge on the young is both comic and tragic, and marks the birth of the modern stage
The cast features Pip Carter, Anna Chancellor, Mark Donald, Peter Egan, Debra Gillett, Joshua James, Adrian Lukis, Des McAleer, Luke Pierre, Geoffrey Streatfeild, Sarah Twomey, Olivia Vinall and Jade Williams.
