Aaron Sorkin is currently adapting Harper Lee’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel To Kill a Mockingbird into a play.
The production will premiere on Broadway and will be the first time the literary classic will have been performed on the New York stage. Sorkin, creator of The West Wing and The Social Network will team up with Scott Rudin for the Broadway adaptation. Sorkin’s previous plays include A Few Good Men and The Farnsworth Invention.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Rudin spent two years trying to secure the rights for Lee’s novel, which has previously been adapted to critical acclaim by Christopher Sergel for the stage – most recently at the Barbican starring Robert Sean Leonard as Atticus Finch.
Tony award winner Bartlett Sher has been signed to direct. Casting has yet to be announced.
