The reforming Radical Liberal party has won power in a landslide, Britain has put a man on the moon, and George, a Professor of Moral Philosophy, is up late writing a paper on a deceptively simple question: is man good, bad, or indifferent? Driven to distraction by the wild election-night party his wife Dotty, a reclusive former musical star, is hosting downstairs, complete with a full band and live acrobatics, George makes an anonymous complaint to the police.
The next morning, the police duly arrive. But not, as George expects, to investigate his complaint. Unbeknownst to him, a murder took place at the party the night before, and Dotty is the prime suspect.
Directed by Blanche McIntyre, returning to Stoppard following her triumphant Hampstead production of The Invention of Love, Jumpers follows the theatre’s run of record-breaking seasonal Stoppard revivals, including Indian Ink, Rock ‘n’ Roll and Hapgood.
