It has been confirmed that Hadestown: The Musical, filmed live at London’s Lyric Theatre with the original Tony and Grammy-winning Broadway cast, will hit UK cinemas for a limited run this October.
Hadestown is officially heading to UK cinemas. The musical was filmed in front of a live audience at London’s Lyric Theatre with the five original Broadway stars and has made waves at the box office in the US. As previously reported, US cinemas saw a remarkable turnout, leaving speculation as to when UK audiences would get to enjoy the film.
Hadestown: The Musical is set to arrive in cinemas across the UK from 13 October 2026 for a limited time only.
A returning Broadway cast
The performances might have been filmed live at the Lyric Theatre in London’s West End, but it was the five original stars of the Broadway production that took the helm.
Reeve Carney (The Great Gatsby, Cabaret), André De Shields (The Wiz, Ain’t Misbehavin’), Amber Gray (The Rocky Horror Show, Eureka Day), Eva Noblezada (Miss Saigon, Les Misérables) and Patrick Page (The Gilded Age, Julius Caesar) all returned to reprise their roles for the filmed performances alongside members of the original West End cast.
- Reeve Carney as Orpheus
- André De Shields as Hermes
- Amber Gray as Persephone
- Eva Noblezada as Eurydice
- Patrick Page as Hades

A global phenomenon
Since it arrived on Broadway, Hadestown has seen great success, winning eight Tony Awards in 2019, including Best Musical, as well as a 2020 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theatre Album. The musical is currently in its seventh year on Broadway and its third year in the West End, returning to London five years after its original 2018 engagement at the National Theatre.
Written by Anaïs Mitchell and directed by Rachel Chavkin, the show follows two intertwining love stories rooted in Greek mythology, with a captivating score that blends modern American folk music with New Orleans-inspired jazz.
The creative team also includes choreography by David Neumann, scenic design by Rachel Hauck, costume design by Michael Krass, lighting design by Bradley King, and sound design by Nevin Steinberg and Jessica Paz.
