The Orange Tree Theatre in London will stage a Shakespeare double-bill next year, with King Lear and Richard II in repertory.
The productions will be led by screen and stage stars Roger Allam (Churchill in Moscow, Endeavour) and Freddie Fox (High Society, Slow Horses).
Both productions will be directed by the Orange Tree’s artistic director Tom Littler, and will play at the Orange Tree in spring 2027, with exact dates to be announced.
The productions will also run at Theatre Royal Bath from 13 to 24 April 2027.
In King Lear, Roger Allam plays Lear alongside Freddie Fox as Edmund.
In Richard II, Freddie Fox takes the title role, with Richard’s uncle, the Duke of York, played by Roger Allam.
Freddie Fox is currently starring in a major London revival of Cole Porter’s musical High Society, which is now playing at the Barbican Theatre in London until 11 July. He returns to the Orange Tree following last year’s production of She Stoops to Conquer.
Three-time Olivier Award-winner Roger Allam returns to the Orange Tree following his performance as Winston Churchill in Churchill in Moscow. Allam’s recent projects include West End comedy Frank and Percy with Ian McKellen, which is being turned into a film.
