Ben Whishaw (Paddington, Bond) and Kathryn Hunter (Black Doves) star in Eurotrash at the Young Vic, a darkly comic new play based on Christian Kracht’s internationally bestselling novel.
Running for a limited season in the Young Vic’s Main House, this gripping adaptation reunites the acclaimed creative team behind Kafka’s Monkey and The Emperor.
What is Eurotrash about?
“You think I’m a stupid, heartless old woman? Well we’re going to give this money away. Really give it away, get rid of it, squander it…And you’re going to help me.“
A blocked novelist is summoned to Zurich by his ageing mother — who is barely holding it together with vodka, pills and Ferragamo sweaters.
What follows is an impulsive, no-holds-barred road trip across Switzerland, as the pair attempt to give away her vast fortune — built on arms investments and dairy products — and leave the past behind.
With cash stuffed into a plastic bag, the bickering duo tear through the snowy Alps in a journey that’s chaotic, outrageous and unexpectedly funny.
Eurotrash is a wildly offbeat, darkly comic ride about family, money and saying goodbye to it all in spectacular fashion.
