Garry Starr: Classic Penguins in London

Following a sell-out extended run at the Arts Theatre and a run at the Garrick Theatre in the West End, Garry Starr brings his gloriously chaotic, high-energy celebration of literature back to London.

Starr has become one of the most exhilarating and unpredictable forces in contemporary comedy, earning a devoted global following for his riotously physical, gloriously anarchic performances.

In Garry Starr: Classic Penguins, the comic wunderkind takes us on a literary adventure through the world’s most iconic works of fiction by performing every Penguin Classic ever written. Mostly naked. With flippers. From The Little Prince to Moby Dick and everything in between, nothing is safe from being lampooned with the utmost nincompoopery.

This riotous hit show sees Garry Starr — the mischievous alter-ego of Australian performer Damien Warren-Smith — push the boundaries of theatrical comedy with his fearless blend of clowning, improvisation and spectacularly ill-advised ambition.

Produced by Francesca Moody Productions (Fleabag, Baby Reindeer) and Fiery Entertainment in association with MILKE, Classic Penguins combines slapstick, clowning, physical comedy and shameless literary chaos — earning it rave reviews, multiple ★★★★★ ratings, and major awards across Australia and the UK festival circuit.

Don’t miss your chance to see Garry Starr: Classic Penguins at The Other Palace, playing from 22 October 2026 – 3 January 2027.

Garry Starr: Classic Penguins premiered at international comedy festivals before conquering the Edinburgh Fringe and London’s Arts Theatre. Written and performed by Damien Warren-Smith and directed by Cal McCrystal, the show is a joyful, unhinged ode to classic literature — proving that great writing doesn’t always need to be treated with reverence. Garry’s quest to “save LIT-ER-A-TU-RE” takes him through dozens of beloved books, delivered with boundless energy, sharp satire and fearless physicality. No masterpiece is safe.
