FANNY is the joyful new comedy by Calum Finlay.

Meet Fanny Mendelssohn, a brilliant nineteenth-century composer whose music was long overshadowed by her famous younger brother, Felix Mendelssohn. While Felix became a musical sensation – with Queen Victoria herself singing his “favourite” composition, Italien – the truth was the piece had been written by Fanny, quietly published under her brother’s name.

When Fanny intercepts a royal invitation for Felix to return to England and premiere a new orchestral work for the Queen, she decides to seize the moment. Hiding the letter, she sets out to take her rightful place at the palace.

The show stars Charlie Russell, co-founder of Mischief Theatre (The Play That Goes Wrong), who reprises her role as Fanny following her acclaimed performance at The Watermill Theatre.

FANNY is a witty, irreverent, and uplifting celebration of music, family, and the long-overlooked genius of a woman who refused to be silenced.

FANNY is playing at the King’s Head Theatre from 10 October to 15 November 2025.

Meet Fanny Mendelssohn. You’ll probably know her younger brother Felix, from nineteenth-century smash hits like ‘The Wedding March’. Felix was such a musical sensation that Queen Victoria requested a personal concert and even sung her favourite of his compositions: ‘Italien’. The only problem was Felix didn’t write it. The piece of music was Fanny’s, quietly published under her brother’s name.

So – when Fanny intercepts a letter inviting Felix to go back to England and premiere a new orchestral work for the Queen, Fanny decides to hide the letter and take her rightful place at the palace…!
