Kiss of the Spider Woman tells the story of political prisoner ValentÃn, played by Diego Luna, who shares a cell with Molina, a window dresser convicted of public indecency, played by Tonatiuh. As the men form an unlikely bond, Molina recounts the story of a glamorous Hollywood musical featuring his favourite screen diva, Ingrid Luna, portrayed by Jennifer Lopez.
The movie is based on Manuel Puig’s acclaimed 1976 novel, which also inspired the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical by Terrence McNally (Love! Valour! Compassion!), and John Kander and Fred Ebb (Cabaret).
Condon’s new adaptation blends elements of Puig’s novel and the stage musical, reimagined for the screen with striking visuals and a powerful emotional core.
Written for the screen and directed by Bill Condon, the film is produced by Barry Josephson, Tom Kirdahy, and Greg Yolen, with a roster of executive producers that includes Jennifer Lopez and Diego Luna, alongside Ben Affleck and Matt Damon.
Kiss of the Spider Woman features an acclaimed cast led by Emmy Award nominee Diego Luna, whose credits include Andor and Y tu mamá también, with Tonatiuh, known for Carry On and Promised Land, and Jennifer Lopez, the Emmy, Grammy and Golden Globe-nominated superstar whose screen work includes Hustlers and Out of Sight. Lopez also serves as an executive producer on the film.
Kiss of the Spider Woman is released in cinemas on 10 October 2025.
