Pop megastar Christina Aguilera has visited new West End show Burlesque The Musical at the Savoy Theatre in London.
Following a sold-out run in Manchester, Burlesque The Musical is now playing at the Savoy Theatre for a strictly limited season until 6 September 2025.
Christina swapped the spotlight for a seat in the stalls on Sunday 20 July, when she slipped into London’s Savoy Theatre to watch a preview of Burlesque The Musical, the stage reimagining of the 2010 screen hit that first turned her into an on-screen star.
The Grammy-winner didn’t hold back in her verdict. Minutes after the curtain fell, Aguilera posted an Instagram reel scored to her own “Show Me How You Burlesque,” captioned simply “BLOWN AWAY!!”, complete with a five-star graphic. The clip shows her cheering from the audience and greeting fans as she made her way to her seat.
Currently in previews, the production officially opens tomorrow, 22 July, and is booked for a strictly limited summer run through to 6 September 2025.
Aguilera is far more than a member of the audience for Burlesque: she serves as an executive producer alongside original film writer-director Steven Antin and producers Adam Paulden, Jason Haigh-Ellery, Sue Gilad, Larry Rogowsky and Clint Culpepper, helping steer the show from screen to stage.
Under the direction and choreography of YouTube star and American Idol alum Todrick Hall (Kinky Boots, Shrek The Musical), who also steps into Stanley Tucci’s film role of Sean, the show stars The Voice Kids UK champion Jess Folley as Ali, the small-town dreamer Aguilera originated on film. Broadway star Orfeh (Pretty Woman the Musical) plays no-nonsense club owner Tess, a role played by Cher in the movie, with Olivier winner George Maguire (Sunny Afternoon, Bonnie & Clyde) as Vince, Asha Parker Wallace as Nikki, and Paul Jacob French (An Officer and a Gentleman, Annie) as Jackson.
Fans of the movie will recognise chart-toppers ‘Express’, ‘Welcome to Burlesque’, ‘Bound to You’ and Aguilera’s show-stopping anthem, joined by fresh material from Hall and Folley.
Steven Antin’s book moves the action from Los Angeles to New York City, framing Ali’s journey as a search for her long-lost mother amid the sequins and sisterhood of an underground revue.
Aguilera singled out Folley’s performance in a follow-up post today, writing: “I am so thrilled to see Jess Folley kill it in Burlesque,” and encouraging fans to book tickets before word-of-mouth makes them scarce.
The cast of Burlesque also features Charlotte Jaconelli as Queenie, Jake Dupree as Trey/Chardonnay, Sophie Cracknell as Daphne, Jess Qualter as Spring, Alessia McDermott as Summer and second Nikki, and Billie Kay as Sophia and second Tess. Hope Dawe is alternate Ali Rose, Idriss Kargbo as Alternate Sean, and Callum Macdonald is cover for Vince and Trey.
The Ensemble includes Michael Afemare, Courtenay Brady, Paje Campbell, Marlee Fergusson, Deja Linton, Hollie-Ann Lowe, Liam Roodhouse, Janine Somcio and Daniel Wijingaarden; and the Swings are Elly Jay, Callum Bell, Angus Good, Ellie Jay and India Thornton.
Burlesque The Musical is written by Steven Antin, based on his original movie, with additional material by Kate Wetherhead. Songs in the show are by Christina Aguilera, Sia and Diane Warren, with additional songs by Todrick Hall and Jess Folley.
