Sara Bareilles (Waitress) and Cynthia Erivo also delivered a powerful and moving tribute for the Tony Awards’ In Memoriam segment, honouring those Broadway has lost this year. Songs included ‘Tomorrow’, paying tribute to the Broadway composer of Annie, Charles Strouse, who died last month.

Sunset Boulevard wins 3 awards including for Nicole Scherzinger

This year’s Tony Awards were an important one for Andrew Lloyd Webber. His musical Sunset Boulevard picked up three awards, including Best Musical Revival for Jamie Lloyd’s extraordinary production; and a best leading actress in a musical win for the show’s star, Nicole Scherzinger.

Operation Mincemeat’s Jak Malone scores a Tony

Like Sunset Boulevard, Operation Mincemeat has also wowed London audiences first before making its way to Broadway. The Tonys rewarded the show – or, more specifically, one of its stars – at this year’s awards. British star Jak Malone, who is one of the creators of the show, won the Tony Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical.
