London audiences are set to get a first-look at new show Mackenzie by Yve Blake (FANGIRLS).
The new play with music is having a reading in London, following successful readings in Melbourne and Sydney.
The new piece, which is set on a kids TV show in 2006, asks what if Macbeth was a 13 year old child star? And what if Lady Macbeth was her ruthless stage mum?!
Yve Blake is best known for writing the Book, Music and Lyrics for the hit musical FANGIRLS, which won the 2019 Sydney Theatre Award for Best Mainstage Musical, and was staged in London at the Lyric Hammersmith Theatre by Sonia Friedman. She is currently developing a screen adaptation of Fangirls with Fremantle, a movie musical for Mark Gordon Pictures, and a new spooky musical.
Yve is an alumni of the Royal Court Writers’ Programme, and has developed and presented her own work in London at Soho Theatre, Southbank Centre, Old Vic New Voices, the National Theatre Studio and The Barbican.
Promising to be a camp, dark and demented twist on Shakespeare’s play, the Mackenzie reading is taking place at the Pleasance London on 2 July 2025.
