Olivier-Award winning actress Tamsin Greig stars in the UK premiere of new musical Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, based on Pedro Almodóvar’s cult comedy movie classic.

Adapted by David Yazbek and Jeffrey Lane (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels), the show is directed by Tony Award-winner Bartlett Sher (South Pacific), and will have a limited 20 week run at the Playhouse Theatre from 16 December 2014.

The show also stars award-winning actress Haydn Gwynne as Lucia, Jerome Pradon as Iva,  Anna Skellern as Candela, Seline Hizli as Marisa and Willemijn Verkaik as Paulina.

THE STORY

Capturing the sexy and colourful spirit of Pedro Almodóvar’s Madrid, Pepa (Tamsin Greig) and her friends juggle their everyday lives and extraordinary moments in a surprising, heart-breaking and rebellious musical comedy.

THE CAST

A fabulous cast includes Tamsin Greig, Haydn Gwynne, Jérôme Pradon, Anna Skellern, Ricardo Afonso, Haydn Oakley, Seline Hizli and Willemijn Verkaik, with additional cast including Marianne Benedict, Holly James, Michael Matus, Rebecca McKinnis, Sarah Moyle, Alastair Natkiel, Nuno Queimado and Dale Rapley.

Tamsin Greig (Pepa) is a multi-award winning actress best known for her TV roles in Episodes, Green Wing, Friday Night Dinner, Love Soup and Black Books.

Haydn Gwnne’s (Lucia) extensive theatre credits include Margaret Thatcher in The Audience, Mrs Wilkinson in Billy Elliot, City of Angels and Ziegfeld.

Seline Hizli’s (Marisa) include Jumpy at the Royal Court Theatre and The House of Bernada Alba at the Almeida, with TV work including Call the Midwife and Law and Order UK 3.

Anna Skellern’s (Candela) theatre work includes Holding the Man at the Trafalgar Studios, and on TV has appeared in Parade’s End, The Interceptor, The Musketeers and Outnumbered.

Willemijn Verkaik’s (Paulina) theatre credits include playing Elphaba in Wicked in London, Broadway, Germany and Holland, plus Scaramouche and Killer Queen in We Will Rock You.

Jérôme Pradon’s (Ivan) theatre credits include Mamma Mia! in France and Les Misérables in the West End and Paris.

Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown gears up for its UK debut in London. New musical Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown held a press launch last night (24 November 2015) at the ICA in London. Hosted by Sandi Toksvig, the launch included interviews with the Tony Award-winning director of the show, Bartlett Sher, the show's composer Jeffrey Lane and stars Haydn Gwynne and Tamsin Greig. Haydn Gwynne and Tamsin Greig also sung numbers from the show, along with Spanish actor and singer Ricardo Afonso, who plays the Taxi Driver. A new press still has also been released for the show, featuring the lead cast. Pedro Almodóvar’s Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown The Musical to open at the Playhouse Theatre starring Tamsin Greig. [caption id="" align="alignright" width="219"] Tamsin Greig[/caption] The UK premiere of Broadway musical Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown will open at the Playhouse Theatre in London this winter. Based on the cult movie by acclaimed Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar, the show will be directed by Tony Award-winner Bartlett Sher and feature stage and screen star Tamsin Greig as Pepa. This brand new production has been reconceived and re-imagined by Bartlett for the UK premiere. David Yazbek and Jeffrey Lane’s musical follows their hit show Dirty Rotten Scoundrels into the West End, which is currently playing at the Savoy Theatre starring Robert Lindsay and Rufus Hound. Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown will run from 20 December 2014 for 20 weeks at the Playhouse Theatre. The show promises to capture the sexy spirit of Almodóvar’s original movie, set in Madrid and about Pepa (Tamsin Greig) and her friends as they juggle everyday lives with some pretty extraordinary moments! Director Bartlett Sher, who won a Tony Award for his production of South Pacific, said, “I keep returning to Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown because Pedro’s vision of the world and women, his humour and his style, seem more important now than at any time since the film premiered.
