The Australian cast has been announced for Back to the Future: The Musical, headlined by star of the West End and Broadway show, Roger Bart.
Bart, who originated the role of Doc Brown in both London and New York, will reprise his scene-stealing performance for the Australian premiere at Sydney’s Lyric Theatre this September.
Roger Bart is a Tony Award winner for his performance as Snoopy in You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown, and was also nominated for his role as Carmen Ghia in The Producers. His screen credits include Desperate Housewives, 30 Rock, and Grace and Frankie.
Joining Bart in the cast are Ashleigh Rubenach as Lorraine Baines, Marty McFly’s mother, with Emma Feliciano as Jennifer Parker, Marty’s girlfriend. Biff is played by Thomas McGuane, and Ethan Jones takes on the role of the lovable George McFly, with Javon Smith as Goldie Wilson and Marvin Berry, Anton Berezin as Mr. Strickland, and Troy Sussman as standby Doc Brown.
Also joining the company are Jay Johns, Isabella Roberts, and an ensemble including Jacob Steen, Sienna Embrey, Alexandra Cashmere, Celine Cleveland, Jack Coyne, Kara Sims, Taye Grant, and Davy Harris.
The star of the show, the actor playing the central role of Marty McFly, won’t be announced by the producers until June.
Producer John Frost, of Crossroads Live Australia, said in a statement: “We are thrilled to have the esteemed and brilliant Roger Bart join our incredible Australian cast. He has enthralled West End and Broadway audiences, so we can’t wait for Aussies to witness his interpretation of Doc on our shores.”
Director John Rando said: “I was blown away by the level of local talent that came through our audition room doors in Sydney. Back to the Future is a pop culture sensation, and I couldn’t be more confident that we’ve assembled a cast that will do this story justice.”
Back to the Future: The Musical is playing at the Sydney Lyric Theatre from 26 September 2025.
Back to the Future is also continuing to play at the Adelphi Theatre in London, starring American actor Caden Brauch as Marty McFly, Cory English as Doctor Emmett Brown, and Sarah Goggin as Lorraine Baines.
The show closed on Broadway earlier this year, but a US tour is currently running to June 2026. The musical will also open in Japan, and is planning a German production.
Back to the Future is based on the Universal Pictures/Amblin Entertainment film, and has a book by Bob Gale and new music and lyrics by Emmy and Grammy Award-winning Alan Silvestri and six-time Grammy Award-winning Glen Ballard, with additional songs from the film including The Power of Love and Johnny B. Goode.
The Olivier Award-winning Best New Musical is directed by Tony Award-winning director John Rando (Urinetown, On The Town), alongside the multi Tony and Olivier Award-winning design team of Tim Hatley (set and costume design), Tim Lutkin (lighting), Hugh Vanstone (lighting consultant), Gareth Owen (sound) and Finn Ross (video), with choreography by Chris Bailey, musical supervision and arrangements by Nick Finlow and Illusions by Chris Fisher. Orchestrations are by Ethan Popp and Bryan Crook, with dance arrangements by David Chase. Casting is by David Grindrod CDG for Grindrod Burton Casting.
Back to the Future is currently booking at the Adelphi Theatre until 3 January 2026.
