Mean Girls The Musical is closing at the Savoy Theatre in London.
The show will play its final performance in the West End on 8 June 2025, and then go out on a major UK tour in 2026.
Mean Girls started its West End run on 5 June 2024, so will have played for a year in London.
Mean Girls The Musical is based on Tina Fey’s 2004 film starring Lindsay Lohan, and tells the story of a young girl who moves from the plains of Africa to a suburban high school in Illinois. She quickly learns that the wilds of Africa did not prepare her for the fierce and vicious manoeuvres of the popular girls in an American high school.
Directed and choreographed by Casey Nicholaw (Disney’s Aladdin, The Book of Mormon), the show has music by Jeff Richmond (30 Rock, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt), lyrics by Nell Benjamin (Legally Blonde), and a book by the film’s screenwriter Tina Fey (30 Rock).
Mean Girls in the West End stars Charlie Burn (Les Misérables) as Cady Heron. The Plastics are played by Georgina Castle (Mamma Mia!) as Regina George, Elèna Gyasi (Six The Musical) as Gretchen Wieners, and Grace Mouat (Legally Blonde) as Karen Smith. Elena Skye (Kinky Boots) and Tom Xander (The Book of Mormon) star as Janis and Damian, and Daniel Bravo (Cruel Intentions) plays Aaron Samuels.
The show also features Lucca Chadwick-Patel as Kevin Ganatra, captain of ‘The Mathletes’, Ako Mitchell as North Shore Principal Mr Duvall, Zoë Rainey as Ms Norbury/Mrs George/Ms Heron.
They are joined by Tia Antoine-Charles, Georgia Arron, Liam Buckland, Shonah Buwu, Baylie Carson, Freddie Clements, Siobhan Diffin, Clíona Flynn, Fergie Fraser, Angus Good, Jenny Huxley-Golden, Holly Liburd, Corey Mitchell, Mervin Noronha, Aharon Rayner, Trézel Sergeant, Josh Singleton, Annie Southall, Lillia Squires, Tommy Wade-Smith and Holly Willock.
Joining Casey Nicholaw in the creative team are Scenic Design by Scott Pask, Costume Design by Katrina Lindsay, Lighting Design by Kenneth Posner, Sound Design by Brian Ronan, Video Design by Finn Ross and Adam Young, Hair Design by Josh Marquette, Musical Supervision by Mary-Mitchell Campbell, and Casting by Natalie Gallacher for Pippa Ailion and Natalie Gallacher Casting.
Last month Mean Girls won Best New Musical at the 2025 Whatsonstage Awards. Elèna Gyasi also won ‘Best Supporting Female Actor In A Musical’ at the 2024 Black British Theatre Awards.
The show has also scored one Olivier Award nomination this year, with Tom Xander up for Best Actor in a Supporting Role in a Musical. Winners are announced on 6 April.
Mean Girls The Musical ran for two years on Broadway, playing 834 performances at the August Wilson Theatre in New York, from April 2018 to March 2020, before Covid then hit.
Mean Girls The Musical is now playing at the Savoy Theatre until 8 June 2025.
