Multi award-winning actor Cynthia Erivo (Wicked) is set to play Jesus in a star-studded new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s Jesus Christ Superstar at The Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.
The Emmy, Grammy and Tony winner, and three-time Oscar nominee, Cynthia Erivo is cast as Jesus, with further casting to be announced.
Jesus Christ Superstar was originally released as a concept rock album in 1970, and is now returning to its rock roots at the Hollywood Bowl.
The show boasts lyrics by Tim Rice and music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, and The Hollywood Bowl production will be directed and choreographed by Tony Award-winner Sergio Trujillo, with Tony winner Stephen Oremus as musical director and conductor, casting by The Telsey Office, and produced in association with Neil Meron and Robert Greenblatt.
Jesus Christ Superstar performances will take place from 1 to 3 August 2025.
Also playing The Hollywood Bowl this summer will be The Greatest Showman star Hugh Jackman with a concert of hits, who opens the summer season on 7 July. His scheduled London concert was recently cancelled for this summer, planned for 6 July.
Season headliners also include John Legend, Cyndi Lauper, John Fogerty, Josh Groban, the Alabama Shakes and Diana Ross.
