The Arcola Theatre has announced the full cast and creative team for its new production of Cry-Baby The Musical.

The show is running at the Arcola Theatre from 6 March to 12 April 2025.

Based on the cult John Waters movie, this Tony-nominated musical from the makers of Hairspray tells the love story of Allison, a straight-laced rich girl and member of the ‘squares’, and ‘Cry-Baby’, the bad boy from the wrong side of the tracks. Ditching her Square boyfriend, Baldwin, Allison and Cry-Baby’s romance intensifies gang rivalries, and the city is turned upside-down in a rollicking tale of forbidden love and teen rebellion.

Cry-Baby stars Adam Davidson (Grease) as Wade ‘Cry-Baby’ Walker, Lulu-Mae Pears (Les Miserables) as Allison Vernon-Williams, Elliot Allinson (Jersey Boys) as Baldwin Blandish, and Jazzy Phoenix (The Phantom of the Opera) as Pepper Walker.

The cast also features Eleanor Walsh as Lenora Frigid, Chad Saint Louis as Dupree W. Dupree, Kingsley Morton as Mona Malnorowski, India Chadwick as Wanda Woodward, Shirley Jameson as Mrs Cordelia Vernon-Williams, and Paul Kemble as Judge/Father O’Neill.

The Ensemble includes JR Ballantyne, Laura Buhagiar, Omer Cem Coltu, Ellie-Grace Cousins, Joe Grundy, Ryan Heenan, and Michael Kholwadia.

Cry-Baby The Musical – Meet the cast

Cry-Baby is directed by Arcola Theatre’s Artistic Director Mehmet Ergen (Little Miss Sunshine, Fiddler on the Roof).

The creative team also includes Designer Robert Innes Hopkins, Choreographer Chris Whittaker, Musical Director Ashton Moore, Lighting Designer David Howe, Sound Designer Matthew Giles, Associate Designer Defne Ozdogon, and Casting Director Jane Deitch.

The show originally had a Broadway run in 2008, and has a book by Mark O’Donnell and Thomas Meehan (Hairspray), with songs by David Javerbaum and Adam Schlesinger.

Set in 1954 Baltimore, Cry-Baby The Musical is a politically charged, laugh-out-loud cult classic, with infectious rockabilly hits like “The Anti-Polio Picnic”, “Screw Loose” and “Girl, Can I Kiss You with Tongue”.

Cry-Baby The Musical is playing the Arcola Theatre from 6 March to 12 April 2025.
