The Menier Chocolate Factory in London has announced casting for its forthcoming revival of Mel Brooks’ musical comedy The Producers.
Directed by Tony Award winner Patrick Marber (Leopoldstadt), The Producers is playing at the Menier Chocolate Factory from 26 November 2024 to 1 March 2025.
Andy Nyman (Hello, Dolly!, Hangmen, Ghost Stories) is set to star as Max Bialystock, with Marc Antolin (The Band’s Visit, I Wish You Well, Quiz) as Leo Bloom, Joanna Woodward (The Time Traveller’s Wife, Pretty Woman) as Ulla, Trevor Ashley (Les Misérables, Hairspray, Priscilla Queen of the Desert) as Roger de Bris, Harry Morrison (Beetlejuice, Come From Away) as Franz Liebkind, with Raj Ghatak (The Father and the Assassin, Life of Pi) as Carmen Ghia.
The cast will also include Jermaine Woods, Nolan Edwards, Charis Alexandra, Michael Franks, Matt Gillett, Leah Harris, Hana Ichijo, Esme Kennedy, Josh Kiernan, Alex Lodge, Kelsie-Rae Marshall, and Chloe Saunders.

Joining Patrick Marber in the creative team are: Choreography by Lorin Latarro; Set Design by Scott Pask; Costume Design by Paul Farnsworth; Lighting Design by Richard Howell; Sound Design by Niamh Gaffney & Terry Jardine for Autograph; Musical Supervision by Gareth Valentine; Musical Direction by Matthew Samer; and Orchestrations by Larry Blank & Mark Cumberland.
The Producers is an adaptation of Mel Brooks’ cult comedy movie, with music and lyrics by Brooks, and a book by Brooks and Thomas Meehan.
The original Broadway production of The Producers scored an impressive 12 Tony Awards, the most awarded to any musical, and was a huge hit for its lead stars Nathan Lane as Max Bialystock and Matthew Broderick as Leo Bloom.
Nathan Lane revived his role as Max in the 2004 West End production, which played the Theatre Royal Drury Lane for two years.
The musical prides itself on being an “equal opportunity offender”, skewering Broadway traditions, and setting the standard for outrageous, in-your-face humour. It’s centred on scheming Broadway producer Max Bialystock and his mousy accountant Leo Bloom, as they purposely produce the biggest flop in Broadway history!
The Producers is running at the Menier Chocolate Factory from 26 November 2024 to 1 March 2025.
Other forthcoming Patrick Marber projects include What We Talk About When We Talk About Anne Frank at the Marylebone Theatre from 4 October, starring The West Wing’s Joshua Malina.
Currently playing at the Menier Chocolate Factory is The Cabinet Minister adapted by and starring Nancy Carroll, until 16 November 2024.
