Long-running musical Mamma Mia! made West End history last night, Monday 29 July 2024, at the Novello Theatre in London.
Mamma Mia! played its 10,014th performance, passing Willy Russell’s Blood Brothers to become London’s third longest-running musical EVER, only beaten by Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera, and Schönberg and Boublil musical Les Miserables.
Mamma Mia! is also now the FIFTH longest running production in West End history, with The Mousetrap and The Woman in Black the only other shows ahead of the musical.
The news comes after the show reached the impressive milestone of 10,000 Mamma Mia! performances on 17 July 2024.
Mamma Mia! currently stars Mazz Murray as Donna, with Mamma Mia! I Have a Dream winners Stevie Doc and Tobias Turley as Sophie and Sky (until 5 October 2024), plus Kate Graham as Tanya, Nicola-Dawn Brook as Rosie, Natalie Langston playing Donna at certain performances, Christopher Dickins as Harry, Stephen Beckett as Bill, Haydn Oakley as Sam, Jessie Odeleye as Ali, Olivia Brookes as Lisa, Chay Wills as Eddie and Arcangelo Ciulla as Pepper.
Mamma Mia! also celebrated its 25th birthday in London earlier this year, having opened at the Prince Edward Theatre on 6 April 1999. The long-running West End show then moved to the Prince of Wales Theatre in June 2004, before moving to its current home, the Novello Theatre, in September 2012.
The show is directed by Phyllida Lloyd and written by Catherine Johnson. The show is designed by Mark Thompson and choreographed by Anthony Van Laast, with lighting designer Howard Harrison, sound designers Bobby Aitken, musical supervisor Martin Koch and casting director David Grindrod. The executive producer and general manager is Philip Effemey.
Mamma Mia! is now booking to 29 March 2025 in the West End.
