The winner of this year’s ITV talent show Britain’s Got Talent was announced last night in an epic live final at the Eventim Apollo theatre in London.

An intense competition saw BTG judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and Bruno Tonioli, and the general public, decide the fate of a host of variety acts from the UK and around the world.

And on Sunday, 28 year old singer from London Sydnie Christmas took home the top prize of £250,000 in cash and a spot on the bill of the 2024 Royal Variety Performance.

Raised in Kent but now living in London, Sydnie Christmas is a singer who was working as a receptionist at a gym at the time of her audition. Her ambition was to perform in the West End, and at her first audition in front of the judges she sang a moving rendition of ‘Tomorrow’ from the hit musical Annie.

Amanda Holden, who is a West End star herself having appeared in a succession of plays and musicals in London, pressed her Golden Buzzer and sent Sydnie through to the Semi-Finals.

At the Semi-Finals, Sydnie Christmas sang ‘My Way’ by Frank Sinatra, proving a huge crowd-pleaser with the audience at home and in the Eventim Apollo in Hammersmith. She won the Public Vote and went straight into the Final.

At the Final on Sunday 2 June 2024, Sydnie sang a moving version of ‘Over the Rainbow’ from The Wizard of Oz.

This powerhouse performance was enough to win Sydnie the public vote – and the ultimate BGT prize!

Also performing at the Final were also two huge West End shows, with A Chorus Line opening the evening, and hit ABBA musical Mamma Mia! closing the show.

Sydnie has always dreamed of being a professional singer. She trained at the D&B Academy of Performing Arts in London, graduating in 2014, and made her debut in London at the King’s Cross Theatre, starring in Lazarus. She also appeared in E4 reality series Stage School.

Sydnie then toured the world on cruise ships The Independence of the Seas and Quantum of the Seas, as a lead singer. Parts she played in her cruise ship performances included Rizzo in Grease and in Starlight Express (which sounds dangerous on the high seas!).

Based on the incredible audience reaction to Sydnie’s powerful vocals and big personality, we predict that a major career in the West End and on tour awaits this talented singer.
