Nicholas Hytner is the director of Guys & Dolls, now playing at the Bridge Theatre in London.

Hytner is also directing Giant at the Royal Court Theatre starring John Lithgow.

Nicholas Hytner is artistic director of London Theatre Company. Its first theatre – the Bridge – opened in 2017. His productions at the Bridge include Young Marx, Julius Caesar, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Bach and Sons, John Gabriel Borkman, and Guys and Dolls.

London Theatre Company’s second space – Lightroom – opened in 2023 with David Hockney’s installation Bigger & Closer (not smaller & further away), and is now running The Moonwalkers – A Journey with Tom Hanks.

Nicholas was Director of the National Theatre from 2003-2015 where he directed plays by Alan Bennett (The Madness of George III, The History Boys, The Habit of Art); Shakespeare (Henry V, Much Ado About Nothing, Hamlet, Timon of Athens, Othello); plays from the classical repertoire (The Alchemist, Phèdre, London Assurance); and a wide range of new plays. He delivered a repertoire of 20 productions a year, including War Horse and The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night Time, and introduced NT Live cinema broadcasts around the world.

Nicholas has worked widely in opera – in London, Paris, Munich and New York; and in film (The Lady in The Van, The Madness of King George.) Theatre awards include three Olivier, five Evening Standard awards and three Tony awards. His book Balancing Acts was published by Jonathan Cape in 2017.

Nicholas served as a Trustee of the Royal Opera House 2008-2021, he is an Honorary Doctor of Letters at Cambridge University and an Honorary Doctor of Fine Arts at the Juilliard School. He was knighted in 2009.
